The women's formula also includes the hip measurement. It estimates body fat from tape measurements alone — no calipers or scales — and is typically accurate to within 3–4% when you measure at the right spots: waist at the navel, neck below the larynx, hips at the widest point.
The U.S. Navy body fat method
Developed for the U.S. Navy, this method estimates body fat from simple tape measurements and your height. Men need neck and waist; women also need a hip measurement. Enter each in centimeters or inches — switch the unit on any field.
Measure snugly and level: neck just below the larynx, waist at the navel (men) or narrowest point (women), hips at the widest point (women).
